Weekly Lesson Plan for Basic School Teachers - KG, Primary & JHS (BS7, BS8 & BS9)

Another Academic term has started once again. It is therefore the primary mandate for a facilitator to prepare adequately before class session. For this reason, the facilitator must have a well-prepared Scheme of Learning (Yearly & Termly) and weekly notes to meet the topics to be treated and how it will be strategically facilitated.

THINGS TO NOTE

  • Scheme of Learning

Scheme of Learning is the first thing that must be done before weekly notes are even considered. Lesson notes are prepared based on the Yearly & Termly Scheme of Learning.

  1. Yearly Scheme of Learning - Yearly Scheme of Learning in simple terms entails what to be taught for the whole academic year (in a termly and weekly manner).
  2. Termly Scheme of Learning - Termly Scheme of Learning TSL, covers what will be taught in a designated term and what will be taught each week.

"Lesson note/Plan" is a document by the teacher/facilitator which indicates the flow of the lesson and its effect on learners. (It is therefore necessary to prepare it strategically in order to deliver effectively).

It is a teacher's detailed description of the course of instruction or learning pattern for a lesson. Varrying of lesson plan is based on preference of the teacher, subject being covered and the needs of the learner.

HOW TO WRITE LESSON NOTES

COMPONENTS THAT ARE OFTEN FOUND IN LESSON PLAN PREPARATION

These are few factors to be considered when preparing lesson notes.

  • Topic and point of the lesson
  • Objectives (what learners should be able to grab at the end of the lesson)
  • Background knowledge
  • Materials
  • Lesson Sequence (Step by step guide to delivering the lesson)
  • Time Management
  • Guided teaching
  • Closure/Assessment (mainly used to check if learners got the understanding of what you (teacher/facilitator) delivered)
